Free Community Drumming Event in Santa Cruz To Benefit
Jacob's Heart Children's Cancer Support Services

On Saturday, July 19, 2008, from 1 to 3 p.m., percussionist Jim Greiner will lead his annual FREE benefit community drumming event in downtown Santa Cruz in the parking lot of Union Grove Music at 1003 Pacific Ave. (next to the Catalyst).  This year's event will benefit Jacob's Heart Children's Cancer Support Services.  Jim will raffle off a full-sized Conga drum with stand, donated by Latin Percussion Instruments (LP), of Garfield, NJ, with all proceeds going to Jacob's Heart.  Raffle tickets are $5 at the event.

Everyone, at any level of experience, with any kind of drum or percussion instrument is enthusiastically welcomed to join in on this all-ages, long-time Santa Cruz community tradition!  Instruments, and shade canopies, will also be provided.  

Jacob's Heart (www.jacobsheart.org) is "dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with cancer and supporting their families in the challenges they face".


Summer Solstice Celebration Community Drum Circle At The Attic In Downtown Santa Cruz

On Saturday, June 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. locally-based, internationally acclaimed percussionist and community drumming leader Jim Greiner will conduct a Summer Solstice Celebration Community Drum Circle at The Attic in downtown Santa Cruz. Admission is $10. The Attic is located at 931 Pacific Ave.

Instruments will be provided and bring your own, as well for this family-friendly event. All levels of experience are welcome.

Jim Greiner, founder of Hands-On! Drumming® Events, leads interactive rhythm events worldwide for corporate team-building, conference ice-breaking, community groups and schools.  Jim is also a long time LP Endorser/Clinician and is head of LP's Recreational & Community Drumming Program.

At the World Rhythm Festival In Seattle

Longtime LP artist/clinician Jim Greiner performed and taught workshops on April 25th, 26th and 27th at the 15th Annual World Rhythm Festival in Seattle, Washington. Jim’s workshops included “Congas: Tumbao & Beyond In Contemporary Musical Styles” and “Shekeré For Performance, Drum Circles & Recreation”. He also gave one-on-one lessons to attendees that included congas, djembe and a variety of hand percussion instruments, as well as giving tips on organizing and presenting community drumming activities and using drumming for corporate team-building.

Jim also performed on the World Rhythm Festival’s main stage with a wide range of musicians from India, Africa, Brazil, North America and Europe. LP sponsored Greiner’s appearance and donated an LP Aspire Conga for the festival’s benefit raffle.

The World Rhythm Festival in Seattle is produced by the Seattle World Percussion Society and brings in over 100 performances and participatory drum and dance workshops from the world music traditions of Africa, Cuba, Brazil, India, America, the Middle East and more. The event’s activities are free to the thousands of attendees of all ages who come to learn, play and dance each year.


Community Drum Circle To Create Upbeat Rhythm
In Downtown Santa Cruz

Award-winning percussionist and long time LP endorser/clinician Jim Greiner will conduct another of his popular community drumming events at The Attic in downtown Santa Cruz on Saturday, February 23rd from 2 until 4 p.m. The cost is $15, or $10 per person for groups of four or more.  The Attic is located at 931 Pacific Avenue.

Instruments will be provided and bring your own favorite drum or percussion instrument.  All ages and experience levels are welcome to come drum, dance and celebrate life!

The Attic combines a community atmosphere with a large dance floor in their huge loft space under large skylights that perfectly showcase their ongoing art displays. The full-service, organic restaurant and tea room will also be open during that day and evening.

Jim Greiner Provides Groove for Wharf to Wharf Race

Longtime LP artist Jim Greiner led a drum circle at the starting line to kick off the 35th annual Santa Cruz, California Wharf to Wharf Race on Sunday, July 22, 2007. Fifteen thousand people of all ages and skills, from elite African and U.S. runners to children and elders, participated in the 10 K event. The racecourse runs from the Santa Cruz Wharf to the Capitola Wharf. This is the 12th year that Jim has led the drum circle at the start of the race since he initiated it.

The Santa Cruz Wharf to Wharf Race is a benefit that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years for Santa Cruz County school athletic
programs. It is considered one of the premier races of this type in the world. The course follows the
beautiful Monterey Bay coastline and features
musical entertainment along its entire length.

Jim Greiner is a percussionist, educator, community drumming leader and inspirational speaker.
